What's the best advice you've ever received?

I came across (and replied to) a tweet a few days ago asking tweeps about the best piece of advice their mothers had given them.

That got me thinking about the best advice my mum — and others — have given me.

One of mum's best pieces of advice was that if you want to buy something but aren't one hundred per cent sure about it, sleep on it. If you're still thinking about it the next day, then buy it. (This works well for decisions in general).

My nan's best advice to us was to invest in property for ourselves.

My regular readers will know that India is my happy place. The best advice I've ever heard about travel there? Don't fight it. Just go with the flow.

Best advice from a doctor: take your vitamins at night after dinner; that way they can work as you sleep.*

From a pharmacist: If you're on a course of antibiotics and taking a probiotic to replenish your body's good bacteria, start taking the probiotic during (not after) the course so that your body has at least a little bit of good bacteria to build from.*

What about you? What advice has stuck with you? Or what advice have you given that's helped someone else?

*I am not a medical professional. Please consult your doctor about what's best for you.
