The quarantine diaries — Days 13 and 14

Dear reader,

Well, here I am, writing from quarantine for the last time.

One more ‘sleep’ until I can go home tomorrow morning. I am disproportionately excited about sleeping in my own bed!

I am feeling much better; my sinus symptoms have subsided. A little worrying is the fact that my quarantine release form was pre-filled with a ‘Yes’ answer to the question about whether I have respiratory symptoms. Because I reported symptoms earlier in the week, it’s there in black and white. I’ve been advised that I can note on the form that my symptoms are due to chronic sinus and have improved. I’ve done so and hope that will be enough to be released tomorrow!

Yesterday was a very busy workday, with a brief lunch break and no fresh air break. I had a fresh air break today, though.

Today I was able to pack most of the things I brought here, along with some grocery items I’ve accumulated whilst in quarantine. A kind friend is picking me up tomorrow, then it’s home to air out my apartment and clean about five months’ worth of dust and dirt before relaxing and unpacking.

Tomorrow will be my first time in my own home since my mum’s passing. I wonder what it will be like going home in new ‘emotional’ circumstances, to things she gave me, or memories made together... I guess that remains to be seen and experienced.

I will be setting up a little corner there for mum, with her picture in a frame, a light or a candle, and sweet peas — her favourite flower — in a vase. I have bought the vase and artificial sweet peas online. That way they’ll always bloom for mum, as she deserves.

‘See’ you tomorrow.
